What is a Charter School?

A charter school is a public school that is nonsectarian and nonreligious and operates under a contract or charter. Under Indiana Code, charter schools are established to serve the different learning styles and needs of public school students, to offer public school students appropriate and innovative choices, to afford varied opportunities for professional educators, to allow freedom and flexibility in exchange for exceptional levels of accountability, and to provide parents, students, community members, and local entities with an expanded opportunity for involvement in the public school system.

SENSE’S NEWS

Truly Moving Partnership!

At the end of May, our SENSE 6th grade students had the opportunity to celebrate some of their most recent work. We were invited to the Heartland Truly Moving Pictures offices in the historic Murphy building in Fountain Square to screen the 6th graders much anticipated silent films. Throughout the year, our students spent hours upon hours creating, planning, filming, and editing 3 silent films. With the help of our art teacher, Billy Phillips, our students created incredible short films. After all this work, they were able to sit back with bags of popcorn and Capri Suns and watch their films in the Heartland screening room! Heartland was so accommodating and made our students feel like they were in the movie business. It is truly amazing when two neighborhood organizations come together and provide a unique and thrilling learning experience for children. We are so excited to see where this partnership leads!
