How can I get involved at SENSE?

SENSE school strives to enhance and nurture students in all aspects of their education and development. As such, the many activities and programs we provide require many helping hands in order to make them happen. If you'd like to get involved in one of our needed positions, check them out below and contact us with your interest!

Volunteer Positions

Classroom Partner – Volunteer is partnered with a classroom and commits to helping on a regular basis. The schedule will be created by the classroom teacher and volunteer. During this time, the volunteer may read with students, practice math skills, participate in science experiments, or help the teacher prepare for the days ahead.

“Wonderland” Partner – Volunteer spends time on a regular basis in the SENSE Reading Room, “Wonderland.” SENSE recently received a grant from the Carson Scholars Fund to build a “reading room” for its students. The room is a comfortable place for students to read independently and relax. In order for the room to be open, an adult must be in there to supervise.

Buddy Reader – Volunteer is partnered with a student in the primary grade levels. The volunteer and student read together on a regular basis. This time is devoted to helping some of our struggling readers gain confidence and build a relationship with a new friend.

Recess Partner – Volunteer goes back in time to everyone’s favorite part of school! The volunteer will join a group of students during recess. The purpose of this time is to mentor groups of students. This is a much more casual form of volunteering and offers a different way to spend time with kids.

Food Pantry Partner – Volunteer helps in the SENSE Food Pantry every other Thursday during the morning or afternoon time slots. The pantry is open from 8:30-10:00am and 3:30-5:00pm. This is a fantastic way to meet SENSE families!
